Description
Nanodiamond is a quantum material that measures only few nm to 100s of nm in size and has the diamond structure. It is much investigated in the field owing to their potential applications in biological, electronic, and quantum technologies. In particular, nitrogen-vacancy center (N-V center) is one of most celebrated point defects in nanodiamond. When N-V centers are successfully introduced, it produces coherent photoluminescence which can be easily detected from an individual N-V center, especially those in the negative charge state (NV-) (see our figures).
Sophisticated growth method. At 2Dsemiconductors we have developed a synthesis technique considering these attractive properties of NV nanodiamond. Our nanodiamond is produced using liquid phase pulse laser ablation. In this process, high density pulsed laser beam (Nb-YAG laser) is focused onto the surface of highly oriented pyrolic graphite (HOPG) which is placed in a liquid (cyclo-hexane or water). The HOPG target is produced at our facilities at highest 6N purity but post-implanted by nitrogen to maximize NV center creation rates. Laser pulses vaporize HOPG in short duration time and form an ablation plume. These vaporized atoms / graphitic complexes interact with each other in a way that they form nano-diamond nanoparticles with highest purity. Nanodiamond products are collected by vacuum filtration and sold inside 2mL bottle which is sufficient for 1-2 years of use in laboratory setting.
