Description
World's first commercially available Na2Co2TeO6 vdW crystals
Na2Co2TeO6 belongs to space group P6322 (182) with a = b = 5.2709(2) Å, c = 11.2615(15) Å. It belongs to the vdW telluride oxide layered crystal family with the chemical formula of MNTeO6 (M= Na, K, Rb; N= Co, Fe, Mn, etc.).
The crystal structure is in its layered honeycomb phase. Considering the non-centrosymmetric P6322 space group of Na2Co2TeO6, strong ferroelectricity is expected. Thestudies to date shown that a long-range AFM ordering below 24.8 K and the magnetic ground state with a zigzag AFM chain persist at low temperature. These exotic magnetic properties along with ferroelectric properties is also anticipated to sustain interesting multiferroic or magnetoelectric properties.
Our Na2Co2TeO6 crystals have been synthesized through flux growth technique without using any precursor elements. Starting from the precursors, the preparation of these crystals take more than 12 steps of preparation and overall 6 months of synthesis time. The resulting crystals are of highest magnetic, optical, and electronic grade. Each crystal is very rare and measure only a few mm in size.
